Dedicated EQ and dynamics editing panels, a monitoring section, and other commonly accessed controls are all within easy reach. D-Command's intuitive console layout includes a centralized Main Unit for fast access to essential functions. The ergonomic design of D-Command enables control through the channel strips and includes LCD display, LED ring, and bar-graph meters for visual feedback. Each channel strip features a touch-sensitive motorized fader, two multi-purpose rotary encoders, and multiple push buttons for quick access to key session parameters. With D-Command, operators have powerful hands-on command over every aspect of a Pro Tools project, including recording, editing, mixing, and processing - with integrated video and delivery - from a relatively small, but expandable, work surface.Įquipped with eight channel faders, D-Command is expandable to 24 faders by adding a single 16-channel Fader Module. As with the flagship large-format ICON D-Control console, D-Command utilizes Pro Tools|HD Accel as its DSP mix engine and Pro Tools|HD interfaces and peripherals for system I/O. Who's It For With its compact size and powerful feature set - including dedicated EQ and dynamics editing sections, custom fader modes, and touch-sensitive rotary controls - ICON D-Command ES is a natural fit for facilities that want ICON's unique mixing capabilities at a more affordable price. There doesn't seem to be much to gain from moving to Apple Silicon at all.The Digidesign D-Command tactile work surface is the newest member of the ICON family, packing amazing control and ICON-exclusive Pro Tools functionality into a medium-format console. I'm just going to bunker down on Intel and see how it all pans out. I imagine Avid will probably pull ICON support entirely from Pro Tools by the time Rosetta 2 support ends in MacOS. It is hard to imagine S4 or S6 sales are going to increase because of this.Īs someone who has been umming and arghing over Apple Silicon for the last 12 months, this announcement has definitely simplified things. ICON D-Command Pro Tools TDM Systems (Mac) Avid Pro Audio Community How to Join. Unless Avid have something new on the immediate horizon, this seems to be nothing more than a really blunt reminder of Avid's modus operandi when it comes to the risks of investing heavily in their hardware. The S3 and S3L have already been axed from sales. Designed for larger rooms, the highly expandable D-Control ES console provides. The S6 is already a year older than the D-Control was when it was canned. Powered by Pro Tools, ICON D-Control ES puts the highest level of hands-on control and extended Pro Tools functionality at your fingertips, enabling you to record, edit, route, mix, automate, recall, and perform other Pro Tools tasks right from the console surface. I can't really see how this helps Avid in the long run. I have been in building that have music studios full of 40 or 50 year old equipment and audio consoles, but one floor up they will roll out a totally functional $80,000 desk after 10 years and bring in a new one that does basically exactly the same thing. It is a real epidemic through the industry at enterprise levels. To push functional, serviceable and highly fit-for-purpose equipment out the door for no other reason than 'just because' really is nothing but corporate greed. Features Dedicated center section panels for EQ and Dynamics control for optimal monitoring while mixing Built-in Pro Tools keyboard provides direct. Personally, I have developed very little tolerance for the whole artificial obsolescence thing. I do urge AVID to consider updating there strategy and transfer the Command/icon interface into the new Native system. AVID will lose a big part of there clients who still use a Command/ICON control surface. What makes it even worse is that WINDOWS computers will still be able to use the Control surface (until AVID breaks that connection offcourse) and recieve updates.ĭo I have to switch to Windows again ? MAC has brought me so much joy -)Īlthough I understand the switch to Silicon Native. This means I have to invest heavily into a new console if I want to change my MacPro into a new M(x)-silicon enabled MAC computer ! I'm sorry but don't have that 60K investment lay-ing around these days to make a switch to S4 or even S6 :-( Not sure when AVID will completely change to Native (and ditch Mac-Intel completely) but one can only assume this is a logical way they will go for future development (pretty sure they will not continue to develop 3 different OS's (Win- MACOS and Silicon Mac)) I am a bit disappointed the ICON Control surfaces wont be able to connect to an silicon-Native version of ProTools Ultimate.
